In addition to writing my own books I also run an acclaimed independent publishing company – Strident Publishing – which produces books for children, teenagers, young adults and adults.
My involvement with Strident gives me an unusual perspective on the craft of writing in that I see it from both sides.
This combination isn’t quite as odd as it may seem – I ran chunks of other people’s businesses before I started Strident.
I sometimes talk in schools about how businesses works – why they sell what they do, where they get it from, how they decide how much to charge, etc. I only do it on request, but it’s something I enjoy doing, so feel free to ask. I usually talk about Lee Goes For Gold when discussing business because that books is essentially a guide to how to start a business. Or, given that Lee is involved, how not to start one. Learn from Lee’s (many) mistakes!
